Renovations on the property (owners have retained all paperwork), completed mid-2013, included:

--New roof constructed using original tiles and recycled vintage replacement tiles. New gutters.

--Timber was replaced throughout the house. Recycled wood for wide-plank floors, ceilings, partitions and built-in closet doors on the second floor and under-stair storage on the ground floor. New or rebuilt shutters and interior windows with glass panes on second floor.

--Staircase rebuilt: extended with shorter rise and deeper steps, all timber with hand-planed banister, with original granite steps at bottom.

--Completely updated electrical. Old-style exposed wiring, bakelite switches and plenty of electrical outlets in every room. Fuse boxes on ground and first floors.

--Completely replumbed for first and ground floor bathrooms, kitchen and locked spigot on five-foot way out front of the house.

--Completely replastered top to bottom, and painted. Master BR and upstairs hallway require re-plastering and painting; owners can obtain quote from original contractor for the work.

--Wireless internet installed.

--Distressed concrete floor and in-floor gutters (for rainwater) preserved on ground floor.

--Retractable roof over interior air well re-tracked for smooth opening and closing.

--Original outhouse in courtyard razed and rebuilt as a small bathroom with shower.

--Courtyard paved with concrete cut to resemble tiles, and granite slabs salvaged around Penang.

--Water heater for upstairs bath, and water tank, installed on roof.
